Hi, we are planning to implement a batch and document separator via patch code or 3 of 9 bar code separator sheets in FileNet Capture Professional 5.2 through Kofax Adrenaline Image Proccessing Engine (AIPE 4.10). Although, its fairly staightforward, I'm having difficulty in getting the patch code or bar code to be printed on a sheet of paper and getting recognized by Capture Doc processing component. I have enabled the patch code and bar code detetction in the configuration.
However, i think its the manner in which the patch code or bar code is being generated and printed on paper which is causing it not to be recognized. I used Kodak's standard patch code (Path 1 to 6) and modified it to form a horizontal patch and stuck it on a piece of paper though MSPaint and took a print out. For 3of 9, I used online 3 of 9 bar code generators to create the bar code and stuck the image on a piece of paper and took a print out.
In both the cases, the patch code and the bar code are not being read. However, I have a sheet on which there was a pre-pprinted bar code (3 of 9), and when i scan this sheet, the bar code is read successfully.
I just want to know what am i missing. Any help would be appreciated.Just FYI, for Patch Code Detection in Doc Processing Component, I have enabled it and set the left offset to 2.00For Bar Code Detection in Doc Processing Component, I have enabled Detection, verify checksum, beep and ratio 2:1. Height - 0.50 and width 0.014. Set the bar code type as 3 of 9 and search direction as Horizontal, Vertical, Reverse Horiz and Reverse Vertical and Quality as Poor.Min lines per bar code as 1Max Pages per bar code as 2Max Bar codes per line as 1.Also, all the other options like Edge Enhancement, enhancement, Removal and FormsId have been disabled.I used the same procedure for QR codes and it was being detected succesfully.
So am wondering how to get the patch code and 3 of 9 bar code printed and detected. Please can anyone help me with this. Here is a good set of patch codes that you can use. They are set to read 2.00 inches from the left margin. Thanks,Nan ChambersDOA ITSDApplication Technology Services Bureau(406) [email protected]: paulosousa via filenet-l mailto:[email protected]: Wednesday, November 25, 2009 11:52 PMTo: Chambers, NanSubject: RE:filenet-l Patch Code and Bar code separator sheetsby paulosousa (SC)on Nov 26 at 2:03 AMas helpfulHi Kartikjust for the barcode 3 of 9: If you are using checksum, try generating the barcode with. at the begin and end.for example if you want 123456 generate.123456.regards,Paulo Sousa.
Hi Paulo, Thank you very much for that checksum info. Although i had done some research on that, the online bar code generators which i was using did not support checksum character. Finally found one which worked like a charm.Hi Nan, Not sure which patch codes you meant, but i came across this amazing post in Kofax forum where in a guy named wolfgang had created an app to generate the patch codes. Tried it and it worked like a charm too. Here's the link:http://forums.kofax.com/viewtopic.php?t=2420.
With ELAN Capture you can indicate separations between your images by inserting barcode separator sheets between each document. For example, you can load multiple distinct documents into your scanner's document feeder, click the Scan button once, and have each document saved as a separate file.
Another use for separator sheets is to indicate partitions within a document. For example, you may be scanning in pages of a book, and you want indicate where each chapter begins. This is another good use for barcode separator sheets.
Example of a Barcode Separator Sheet
A barcode separator sheet, as the name suggests, is a sheet of paper with a barcode printed on it. There are several different barcodes that allow you to make many types of separations in your scanning. For example, you may use one barcode to show the beginning of a new document, another barcode to show chapter separations and still another to indicate bookmarks to notable pages.
When these sheets are scanned, ELAN Capture displays them as regular image files. Once you instruct ELAN Capture to process the barcode images, the rest of the images are organized according to the hierarchy you have indicated with your separator sheets.
Example of Levels in an Image Tree
In the illustration above, the scanning job is a user manual, and we have indicated chapters as well as 2 other levels of bookmarks within each chapter. When this document is saved to PDF, those separations will be indicated as bookmarks.

Your Elan consultant will set up your barcodes to accomodate your specific needs. In addition, there is documentation on how to modify your barcode configuration if your needs change.
